What's On - 9 March 2022

Each year during Lent, our Junior School boys and families are very generous in raising funds for Australian Marist Solidarity projects. The College is focusing on raising much needed funds during 2022 for the Chetana Tribal Boys’ Hostel in India and AMS projects in Timor Leste. You can read about both projects by following the links below.

Each Wednesday for five weeks, the Junior School boys are invited to participate in our Lenten Appeal activity days. If the boys choose to participate in the Lenten Activity days, we ask that they make a donation that will go to AMS.

College Open Evening

The College’s Open Evening will be held on Friday 1 April from 4.30pm to 7.00pm. This is a great opportunity for families to meet our teaching staff, speak with our Co-curricular club coordinators, learn about the importance of service within our community, and meet current students to hear about their personal Marist journey.

Due to COVID restrictions, families are required to register their attendance.

Enrolments now open

Applications are now being accepted from current families who may be considering enrolling any sons not already at the College into Years 4 – 12.

A reminder that applications for Years 4, 5, 6 and 7 need to be received no later than Friday 27 May 2022  to be considered for enrolment starting in 2023.

We would also encourage current families to let any friends who may be interested in enrolment know that they can now apply online. 

Important reminder for Year 6 and Year 10 families

A reminder that families with sons currently in Years 6 and 10 at the College do not need to re-enrol their son into Year 7 or Year 11.

Our expectation is that once a student is enrolled at the College, their enrolment will continue until the completion of their studies in Year 12.

For families wishing to sell pre-loved items, please note the following. 

Prior to dropping off second-hand uniforms for sale or donation, you will need to ensure that:

• Items are current uniform and in as new or very good used condition with no marks on the garment.
• Blazers have been dry cleaned and dry-cleaning tag attached and/or receipt submitted.
• All other garments have been freshly laundered and no body odour evident.
• Garments are not in need of any repairs, for example: buttons missing, zips or fasteners damaged.
• Artwork / embroidery is not cracked, damaged, unthreaded, or obsolete in appearance.

Faded, frayed, worn or threadbare items, or items with stains (eg ink/paint) will not be accepted.

Once items are sold, families will be sent an SMS to advise of an in-store credit to redeem upon your next Shop purchase.

For families wishing to donate second-hand items, the proceeds of sales will be donated to the Br Mark May Bursary Fund which provides financial support to Marist students.

Whilst the town and College are used to floods and are well prepared for such events, the magnitude of this flood is beyond anything previously experienced. The destruction at the College is significant and the hardship on many hundreds of College families is acute, reflecting the situation for communities throughout the northern rivers region of NSW and southeast Queensland.

As fellow Marists, as we watch and listen to the news reports, we are compelled to ask, “How can we help?” One practical way is to provide financial support to the College community in order to help rebuild their school and more importantly, the lives of the people who are Trinity Catholic College.

Here are a few snippets from the Pope and a link for you to read the full text, bringing it into your prayer, and hopefully finding ways to give expression to these themes in your own life.

1. Sowing and reaping: Lent invites us to conversion, to a change in mindset, so that life’s truth and beauty may be found not so much in possessing as in giving, not so much in accumulating as in sowing and sharing goodness. Just as we recognise a tree by its fruits (cf. Mt 7:16, 20), so a life full of good deeds radiates light (cf. Mt 5:14-16) and carries the fragrance of Christ to the world (cf. 2 Cor 2:15). Serving God in freedom from sin brings forth fruits of sanctification for the salvation of all (cf. Rom 6:22).

2. ‘Let us not grow tired of doing good’: The Lenten season calls us to place our faith and hope in the Lord (cf. 1 Pet 1:21), since only if we fix our gaze on the risen Christ (cf. Heb 12:2) will we be able to respond to the Apostle’s appeal, “Let us never grow tired of doing good” (Gal 6:9). 

3. ‘If we do not give up, we shall reap our harvest in due time’: By cultivating fraternal love towards everyone, we are united to Christ, who gave his life for our sake (cf. 2 Cor 5:14-15), and we are granted a foretaste of the joy of the kingdom of heaven, when God will be “all in all” (1 Cor 15:28).
