What's On - 6 September 2023

Next year the College is partnering with Catholic Mission to offer two Immersions: one to the Tiwi Islands and Darwin and another to Cambodia. The Immersions are open to current Year 10 students and are running during the 2024 July school holidays.

How to apply: applications are via this form. Completed applications are due to Mr Peter Hawes no later than Friday 8 September.

Students are advised to think about how they might contribute to the financial cost of the Immersion.

Please note: places on the Immersions are limited and, depending on the number of applicants, there may be an interview process.

Every year Common Ground works with different First Nations creatives and communities to film five stories. The films are shared online, and people come together to watch them over five days.

2023 FIRST RECONCILIATION PROGRAM – YEAR 4 ENROLMENTS

Corpus Christi Parish, South Tuggeranong

Term 4 marks the beginning of the preparation time for the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Corpus Christi Parish. 

If you would like your child to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation through Corpus Christi Parish you will need to enrol them and agree to participate in the compulsory elements of the parish sacramental preparation process. For more information, please click here.

Year 12 Retreats will run from Wednesday 20 September – Friday 22 September, with 2 houses attending each Retreat.

More information about the Retreats, including venues, will be sent directly to families via MyMarist this week.

Each Retreat will be led by a team of facilitators, and the students will be supported by House Deans and other staff from their houses.

These are great opportunities for students to engage with their faith, spend quality time with each other, and grow as young men.

The College’s 2023 AMS Appeal is closing at the end of the week. We are supporting two projects: Chetana Tribal Boys Hostel, Talit, West Bengal and St Joseph’s School, Mabiri, Bougainville.

Year 8 Families - please be advised that a letter regarding information about the Year 8 Camp and iWeek was sent out on Monday.

Football

Congratulations to Michael Paragalli, Sebastian Arranz, Nicholas Pratezina, Lachie Campbell and Jack Leverett who represented the ACT in the U18 Invitational Schoolboys Competition in Sydney last week. They did exceptionally well, with their team earning second place overall.

Michael and Sebastian have also been selected in the Australian Schoolboys Squad which will travel to the UK in January. Well done boys!

2023/24 Rowing Season Registrations are now open!

Membership is open to boys in Year 6  through to Year 11 (2023). New rowers are generally accepted up to Year 8. Applications from boys in higher year groups will be assessed individually but cannot be guaranteed.

The 2023/24 rowing season runs from the commencement of Term 4 2023 to the end of Term 1 2024. Training is split between two locations (Lake Tuggeranong & Yarralumla) and requires a commitment of two afternoons per week and Saturday mornings.

Rowing is a sport that builds and develops both mental and physical strength, team work, discipline and commitment. It provides an opportunity to improve endurance, stamina, strength, balance and confidence as well as build and develop a lifelong love for fitness and the water!

Marist College Canberra were delighted to host and welcome our visitors from Marist Suva Fiji - the Marist U15 Royal Rugby team played Marist Brothers Suva U15 yesterday, with Marist Suva winning 19-15. 

Special thanks to Marist Rugby Club for supplying the sausage sizzle and organising the BBQ and a big thank you to everyone who turned out to support both teams and give a warm welcome to our Fijian and fellow Marist visitors.

Congratulations to Marist 1st XV who won 30-29 to Vikings U18 in an incredible game against formidable opponents at Viking Park. Marist were down 29-27 at the end of the second half and scored a penalty after the siren. Joey Henry kicked the ball on the bell to win 30-29. What an exciting game to watch and an incredible atmosphere down at Viking Park.
