What's On - 6 May 2020

Some Frequently Asked Questions have been prepared that provide information for all Marist families on the arrangements and measures that the College has in place to protect all members of our community from any potential spread of illness. We hope this will assist you in supporting the College and our staff as we welcome students back onsite on Monday 11 May.  

A couple of points to remember:

• Due to social distancing requirements, people need to make an appointment online before visiting the Uniform Shop. Click here for more information. 
• Canteen orders will need be pre-ordered as a walk up service will not initially be available. Parents will need to register, if they have not already done so, before orders can be placed. Click here to register.  

Families of students enrolled in instrumental and vocal lessons are asked to please check their emails for a letter about arrangements from Mr Schindler. 

All parents and carers will receive a communication later this week in final preparation for students to return to the College on Monday 11 May for face-to-face teaching.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to Joseph (Year 12), William (Year 9) and Sarah Mamalai and family on the passing of Joseph’s and William’s father, Oscar. 

Please keep the Mamalai family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  

Although there is no Footsteps this week, our Year 9 students are encouraged to watch episode number 16 in the ‘Forming Beyond’ series. 

The attached video encourages all of us to look after our mothers in special ways this week, without making a fuss. The importance of Doing Good Quietly (DGQ) is covered in the video.

Parents and friends of the College are invited to attend our first Gathering Beyond: Dusk Session this Thursday, 7 May, from 5.00pm - 5.45pm through Zoom. We will spend time reflecting on the resource by Br Mark O’Connor called ‘The vision still has time - Living our faith in a time of chaos’. We hope it provides an opportunity to reconnect, reflect and renew with our local Marist Association. Click here for more information about the process. Please RSVP to Nathan Ahearne. 

The Marist Mission and Life Formation team are also offering a personal way of exploring the same resource which will be emailed each Wednesday for the next seven weeks. Click here to register.

Our Game Changer groups for Years 4-10 will recommence over the next fortnight. Students should check their emails for further information.

We look forward to gathering in person on Tuesday 19 May from 4.30pm – 6.00pm in the College’s Senior Staffroom. Please put this date in your calendar. Further details will be announced soon.

Applications are now being accepted from current families who may be considering enrolling any sons not already at the College into Years 4 – 12. Applications need to be received no later than Sunday 31 May to be considered for enrolment in 2021.

We would also encourage current families to let any friends who may be interested in enrolment that they can now apply online. 

Important information for Year 6 and Year 10 families

A reminder that families that have sons currently in Years 6 and 10 at the College do not need to re-enrol their son into Year 7 or Year 11. 

Our expectation is that once a student is enrolled at the College, their enrolment will continue until the completion of their studies in Year 12. 

To ease the burden of physical distancing, Mary Help of Christians Parish is looking for student volunteers to write to elderly parishioners. This is a great way to continue serving the community, and hope that many of our boys will sign up. For more information, contact Nathan Ahearne.  

The College is calling for nominations for the Br Francois Service Medal.

The person receiving this Medal will be an Old Boy of the College who:

• has been out of school for a minimum of three years, and
• has a demonstrated track record of service to others or who has made an exceptional contribution to meeting the needs of the vulnerable.

Nominations for this year’s Medal close on Friday 29 May 2020.
