Parents and friends of Marist are invited to our Champagnat Day Mass to celebrate the feast of St Marcellin Champagnat.
The Mass begins at 9.00am on Thursday 6 June 2024 in Marcellin Hall followed by morning tea.
Please RSVP here to attend the Champagnat Mass. Please note, numbers are limited.
Fundraising for the College Walkathon
Tomorrow is the annual College Walkathon on Champagnat Day. This Walkathon is not only a great opportunity for our students to be active as a school community but is also a crucial fundraiser for our chosen charities. We encourage all families to support their boys in gathering sponsors and donations. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference to our chosen charities.
(Please read the Community section below for an important weather update.)
Reminder: Please ensure School Uniforms are labelled
We would like to remind all families to ensure that all school uniform items are clearly labelled with your child's name. As we are well into our winter sports season, it becomes increasingly important to keep track of personal belongings as the boys change for their afternoon training. Labelling items helps us return lost items to their rightful owners and reduces the number of lost and found items. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Hats Off Day - End of May
Students are no longer required to wear hats during recess and lunch due to the lower UV ratings for the next two months in the ACT. While sun safety remains a priority, this period allows for a little more flexibility. We will resume our 'No Hat, No Play' policy on 1 August, when UV ratings rise again.
Junior School – Parent/Teacher Interviews
Junior School parents will soon be receiving information regarding bookings for our upcoming end of Semester Parent/Teacher Interviews. Interviews will be held on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 June. We ask that all families book an interview to discuss and review your sons' Semester One school report that will be made available to parents before the Parent/Teacher Interviews.
A reminder that the formal Expressions of Interest for the 2025 Visual Arts Tour for London and Paris are now out. Applications are due by Friday 7 June. If you require a copy of the application form and details from the presentation evening on Tuesday 21 May please reach out to Miss Croft at aprilcroft@mcc.act.edu.au.
The annual College Walkathon will take place as part of our Champagnat Day celebrations on Thursday 6 June 2024. Marcellin would take great pride in our efforts to reach out and support the least, the lost and the lonely, and all those in need on his Feast Day. The 2024 Walkathon the funds raised will go towards Catholic Care - Mackillop House, HOME in Queanbeyan and The Br Mark May Bursary Fund.
Find out more about these important community initiatives by watching our Captains video or reading below.
Catholic Care – Mackillop House
MacKillop House is a residential crisis service for women over the age of 18 who are experiencing homelessness. It currently offers shared short-term living for up to 20 women in their own individual rooms, as well as 6 independent townhouses for mothers with young children. Catholic Care works with each of the residents throughout their stay at MacKillop House to develop strategies for long-term plans concerning safe and affordable housing. Mackillop House plays a crucial role in the ACT region, supporting women experiencing homelessness and who are in crisis. Funds raised will help pay for food, and essential services as well as continued maintenance and improvement of the facilities.
HOME in Queanbeyan
A long-term accommodation service for people experiencing mental illness who are at risk of homelessness. The College’s contribution aims to actively help to create positive outcomes for people living with an enduring mental illness.
Brother Mark May Bursary Fund
Funds raised this year will also be directed towards the Brother Mark May Bursary Fund for student bursaries. These bursaries will be used to afford students within our community, who would otherwise not have the opportunity, a chance to receive a Marist education and become part of the Marist community. We know what a wonderful gift a Marist education is; being able to offer that gift to young boys and their families, who are on the margins, aligns centrally with the Marist values upon which our community is built.
Please note, the 2024 College Walkathon is cashless and all pledges are to be transferred via the payment page, accessible via the QR code on students' sponsorship cards, or via the button below. Your support of the 2024 College Walkathon is greatly appreciated.
Dear parents and carers,
As you would appreciate, we have been monitoring tomorrow’s forecast for the past few days. The forecast at this stage is for rain mid-morning (35%) and easing throughout the afternoon. The temperature remains for a low of 7 and a top of 14 degrees.
We have reviewed the risk assessment for the Walkathon, and should the weather become extremely poor the event will be postponed. The conflicting weather reports make any decision at this point difficult. Please be advised the Walkathon is only likely to be postponed if there is a significant amount of rain and will proceed if the rain is reasonably light, and it is safe to do so.
We will review the forecast and weather conditions throughout the morning and students will be notified if the Walkathon is postponed. Parents and carers can rest assured that there are no actions for them to take if the Walkathon is postponed.
Please ensure all boys bring their change of clothes, and please encourage all boys to dress appropriately for tomorrow's weather conditions if out and about on the Walkathon.
Regardless of the weather, the Champagnat Day Mass will go ahead at 9am tomorrow, and morning tea (milk and donuts) and lunch (sausage sizzle) will be provided as we celebrate this important day. Students are expected to come to school in full school uniform and be prepared for normal school classes in the event the Walkathon is postponed.
In the case of postponement, for senior school students classes will be as per the Day 9 timetable.

ACT School Sport has changed the process for applying and participating in sporting trials.
Anyone interested in trialling for the various regional sports, now need to log onto the ACT Sports Website and register for the sport that your child wishes to trial. It is the responsibility of parents to monitor the website for any upcoming sporting events and trials if your child is interested in competing in the regional competitions.
Please also note if your child is successful in being selected for an ACT team to participate in a national or regional tournament, you need to write a formal letter to the College Deputy Headmaster or Head of Junior School to seek permission for absence from school during this period. Once the College has received such a request it can then be formally approved for your son’s participation in this activity with ACT Schools Sport. Secondly, we will be also able to acknowledge his achievement in the College Newsletter.
Paul Mead
Head of Sport
