What's On - 30 November 2022

Today we farewell our Year 12 Students for the last time. The College will gather this morning, along with families of our Year 12 Students to celebrate the Graduating Class of 2022. We look forward to reflecting on the incredible journey that these young men have experienced together and wish all of the boys the best for their future outside of Marist. 

A reminder for all Year 12 Families that Graduation Morning Tea will begin at 10.20am in the Senior Hall, followed by the Graduation Assembly in Marcellin Hall. 

The Graduation Mass will be held later this evening at St Christopher's Cathedral, Manuka at 5.00pm. 

We look forward to seeing our Year 12 families there. 

The Uniform Shop will be open to the College community during the December school holidays for regular trade, Click and Collect orders, and uniform fitting appointments on the following days:

Return of Library books and Text books

Please note that all textbooks and library books were due back last Friday.

Any textbooks or library books that are still outstanding will need to be replaced, and your school account will be invoiced for the cost. If your son still has books on loan, you will receive an email notifying you of the details.

Library Early Close in Week 19

The Library will close at 3.30pm on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 December.

A reminder to all music students to please take their instruments home over the holidays. Please collect from the Performing Arts Building at your earliest convenience.

Also, a reminder to keep music folders in lockers, and no sports bags are to be kept in the instrument cubbies.

Most will be aware that during the pandemic Catholic Diocese’s around the world suspended the obligation to attend Sunday Mass.

Archbishop Christopher has lifted this exemption and resumed the obligation. In doing so he reminds people that we attend Mass on Sunday to worship God and to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. In doing so we also offer our witness and prayerful support to others.

Parents are welcome at our Thanksgiving Mass on Friday 1 December 

Parents are warmly invited to the celebration of a Mass of Thanksgiving where we will give thanks for the year. Mass will start promptly at 9.00am Friday 1 December in Marcellin Hall. Parents are requested to sit in the bleachers at the side. During the Mass we will pray that we continue to live our lives as people of faith who are known and loved.

The original Cathedral Church of our Archdiocese has been restored. The diocese of Goulburn was established in 1862, the third in the country after Sydney and Melbourne, and the foundation stone for the cathedral was laid down in 1871.

Over recent years there has been a project to restore this Church, the only greenstone Church in the world and it will be officially re-opened by Archbishop Christopher today, November 30.

This will be a significant day in our local Church and especially for the Goulburn community.

Parish Sacramental Programs - Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Communion

Students in Years 4-6 in 2023 seeking the Sacraments are invited to enrol in preparation programmes which are run in their Parishes. Details will be available at the beginning of each year from your local Parish office. In the case of MHoC, Reconciliation and First Holy Communion runs at the start of the year requiring registration now.

Sacramental Certificates Years 4-6

We become full members of the Catholic Church when we have received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. If your son has received one or all of these in your parish this year, please scan and submit his certificate here so that we can update his records. 

This program is an opportunity for students and their families to deepen their Catholic faith through the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Holy Communion or Confirmation). It is open to students from Years 7 -12 who are considering one or all of these Sacraments. Sisters of these students are welcome to participate in the program and receive the sacraments as a family.

The actual design of the program will be partially dependent on the needs of the candidates, it will involve a mix of twilight sessions for the family and weekly sessions for the students. These will mostly be held here at school. Priests from the local parishes will also be involved in various sessions and families will need to connect with their parish. The Sacraments will be received within each student’s local parish in and around Pentecost on the 28th May.

Last call for donations!

This year we are again asking members of the Marist Community to join us in making a difference to people’s lives, by making donations of non-perishable foods, toys, gift cards, toiletries, sporting equipment, school supplies etc... Essentially, anything that would make your Christmas an enjoyable one can be donated. We do ask that all gifts remain un-wrapped so they can be easily identified and given to suitable families. Also, please ensure any food given has an expiry date beyond six months so families have plenty of time to consume it.

Donations can made through House Groups and hamper baskets have been distributed among House Group leaders.

Marist Vinnies group would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your on-going support throughout the year and wish you and your family a very happy Christmas.

Please note that the last day we can accept donations is Monday 5 December.

Over the next couple of weeks, Darlinghurst House are supporting Lions Club Recycle for Sight Australia.  An initiative from within the House, we are asking for donations of used glasses/spectacles to donate to humanitarian organisations overseas. Over the 26 years that the Australian charity has operated, the program has delivered over 7 million pairs of refurbished quality spectacles to men, women and children in need across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

There will be collection boxes in the Junior and Senior School Reception areas to take your donations.  Many thanks for supporting the Lions Club Recycle for Sight Australia.
