Legislation by the ACT Govt to compulsorily acquire land and buildings.
After serving Canberra and the region with distinction for over 44 years, Calvary Public Hospital Bruce has been blindsided by the ACT Government, who have announced that they had begun an acquisition process to take control and ownership of the hospital.
If the proposed legislation is passed at the end of the month, Calvary Hospital Bruce will cease to operate under the governance of the Little Company of Mary.
Understandably, this legislation is of great concern to the Catholic community of Canberra and the region. It also raises questions about the way this government chooses to operate in the community. Rather than negotiate in good faith, it resorts to legislation, negating other voices.
The Archdiocese has raised a petition to the ACT government. To read more about this situation you may like to access the links below, where you will also find a link to the petition.
