What's On - 16 June 2021

A reminder that Marist has released its own app! It is available from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store by searching for Marist College Canberra and clicking Install.

Once the app has installed successfully, you will be able to log on using your regular College username and password. 

The College App consolidates a variety of communication channels into one convenient place for our students and parent/carer community. The advantage of installing the App on your personal device is that you will receive real-time notifications when information is published by the College, and also have a central reference point to access the College Calendar, Student Timetables and the College’s Learning Management System Canvas among other important and useful links. Student absences can also be reported via the App. 

We encourage all parents/carers to take the time to install the College App, especially during this period of online learning.

Students should make sure they have identified the correct time-slots for each of their exams and recorded in their diary, remembering that failure to arrive for an exam at the designated time may result in a missed assessment penalty. Illness on the day of an exam must be supported by a Doctor’s Certificate and students will be expected to complete the missed exam in the next exam slot after the expiry of the doctor’s certificate.

Students in Years 9 and 10 will all have a double period for their two electives even if they don’t have an exam. These will be in their normal rooms. If a student in Years 9 or 10 is unsure of whether or not they have an elective exam, they should check their unit outline and/or speak with their teacher.

Coming to a stage near you - this year's Marist Big Brothers’ Production of 'Grease' - the classic tale of high school life!

Set in the 1950s, the story follows the students of Rydell High as they search for meaning in relationships while challenging stereotypes and learning what it means to be true to yourself and others.

The performances will be held in the College's Senior Hall on:

• Thursday 15 July 2021: 7.00pm
• Friday 16 July 2021: 7.00pm
• Saturday 17 July 2021: 2.00pm
• Saturday 17 July 2021: 7.00pm - Sold out!

Those attending the Friday night show are invited to come dressed as your favourite Grease character. Prizes will be awarded for general and specific categories. Keep an eye on our socials for more information!

Important information for Year 6 and Year 10 families

A reminder that families that have sons currently in Years 6 and 10 at the College do not need to re-enrol their son into Year 7 or Year 11.

Our expectation is that once a student is enrolled at the College, their enrolment will continue until the completion of their studies in Year 12.

Several members of our Marist Justice and Solidarity Service Group are currently participating in a “Ration Challenge”. For five days from Monday, 14 June, the students are only eating what a Syrian refugee does in order to raise money and awareness for those displaced by conflict or disaster.

Each student has been provided with a small rations box from Act for Peace, an international charity organisation that started the challenge in 2014.

The next Mary Help of Christians Parish’s Youth Group meeting is on this Saturday, 19 June.

If you are in Years 5 to 8, please come along from 4.30pm to 6.00pm. Students in Years 9-12 are welcome to attend from 7.00pm – 9.00pm. Feel free to bring a friend for some games, food and good conversation.

This Youth Group will meet on a fortnightly basis unless otherwise noted. Please contact Nick Weir with any questions.
