Renewed and Reinvigorated
It is a delight to welcome the community to the new semester and the new term. I trust everyone has returned feeling refreshed, renewed and reinvigorated after enjoying a well-earned mid-year break.
It was enjoyable to move around the College at the beginning of the first day. There was a friendly buzz amongst the student community as they got back together. Staff have also returned refreshed and with a renewed sense of energy after one of the most challenging experiences in their professional lives. It is only the special energy of purposeful work during term that makes the holidays worthwhile. Deep down everyone knows this.
It was also enjoyable to witness, after such a long break, the many boys participating in the winter sport program last weekend. The joy of playing with mates, representing the school and competing on the fields brought much celebration. The boys are enormously thankful to the sporting committees who have been extraordinary in managing the return to play under the COVID-19 restrictions. Many sporting clubs across the ACT have witnessed a significant decline in playing numbers and some clubs have not been able to enter teams due to playing requirements. Marist has, in fact, registered increased numbers in many sports and we thank the many parents and Old Boys coaching or managing teams who continue to give so generously to our community. Thank you also to spectators for following the requirements when watching sport at the College.
