Fathers and Sons Mass
Friday 2 September 2022
On Friday 2 September, we celebrated our inaugural Marist Father and Sons Mass at our local parish, Mary Help of Christians.
Over three hundred fathers, grandfathers accompanying sons and parishioners attended the Mass, which was celebrated by Monsignor John Woods.
Father’s Day has a deep spiritual dimension. Earlier this year on the Feast of St Joseph, Jesus’ earthly father, Pope Francis urged all dads in the world to stick by their children, teaching them, guiding them and loving them.
He said even though God was Jesus’ father, St. Joseph lovingly took on the paternal role and taught the young Jesus various skills, the value of work, reverence for the Lord, fidelity and obedience to God’s will.
As a Marist school, we commit ourselves to living the Gospel of Jesus with the same faith, hope and compassion that Mary and Joseph did. Father’s Day is a day to focus on the importance of fathers or father figures in our lives and the crucial teachings that they have given us.
I thank each father, grandfather or father figure who gave of their time to be with us.
