During the school holidays 28 students, accompanied by 4 teachers embarked on a football tour to Spain, visiting the cities of Barcelona and Madrid.
During their stay in Barcelona the students had the opportunity to see the sites of the city including La Rambla, the Gothic Quarter, La Sagrada Familia Basilica, Montjuïc Castle and FC Barcelona’s home stadium, Camp Nou. The students also had the privilege of partaking in a professional coaching session run at the home grounds of La Liga club RCD Espanyol, attending a Champions League match, a La Liga match and a Spanish lower tier match. Once in Madrid the students had the opportunity to visit the sites of the city centre including training with Atlético Madrid, and sightseeing at the Madrid Royal Palace and the bullfighting arena Toros Las Ventas.
The students and staff were also kept busy during their stay playing friendly fixtures against local opposition. This resulted in two wins and two losses against very technical Spanish opposition. Despite the language barrier the boys were able to engage in some great banter with the opposition players!
An enormous thank you must go to Mr McDonald, Ms Baillie, Mr Kim and Mr Smith for accompanying the boys and giving them this once in a lifetime experience.
