Safe School Policy
A supportive learning environment
Marist College Canberra seeks to provide a warm and secure learning environment where students develop self esteem and confidence, and are caring, respectful and tolerant of others. The College is committed to providing all staff and students with a working and learning environment free from all forms of harassment and bullying, including physical, verbal, social and sexual.
All students, staff and parents are expected to support this commitment. This includes an expectation that all bystanders will intervene proactively to prevent harassment.

No Nuts Please

The College has a number of people (staff and students) who are severely allergic to nut products. Reactions for some of these people can be life threatening. In a spirit of community, we ask all parents and carers to refrain from sending any foods to school which contain nuts and to support the College by explaining to boys the importance of this request.
This request extends to House and College functions for which families may be asked to provide food contributions.
The College canteens do not knowingly sell any products containing nuts.
What is Nut allergy/anaphylaxis?
Unlike other allergies, the risk of contamination with very small amounts of nut product is extremely high and so protection and awareness measures must reflect that risk.
Anaphylaxis is a sudden and severe allergic reaction, which can be fatal, requiring immediate medical emergency measures be taken. Failure to respond appropriately may result in death.
Contact with minuscule amounts of a substance such as nuts can result in anaphylaxis.
